Cute Cat Head Hair Accessories

After remembering that I had some hair pins in stock, I was excited to begin making tiny little cat heads that I could affix to the hair pins.  I've *just* listed 3 different sets of hair pins, each with a "left" and a "right".

Ribbon! Eeeee!

Since I've moved a thousand miles away from my favorite craft store (and previous job of 7 years) I've had to fend for myself when it comes to how obtain the supplies to wrap up my orders.  While working at the craft store and using the weekly sales + my employee discount, nice ribbon was still pretty expensive.  However, I was able to find a neat art store near where I was living in Atlanta that had one particular color of this super soft satin ribbon that was ALWAYS super cheap for some reason.  I think they bought a crap load of stock and then the color was discontinued and they just wanted to get rid of it.  Anyway...before we moved to Boston I bought about 30 spools of this awesome ribbon, thinking it would last me until I aged well into my nineties.

Quite unexpectedly, a few months after moving, my stock of precious ribbon had dwindled down to a few yards. I cried out, saddened that I would never be able to find nice, affordable ribbon again. And then I got on the internet, found a supplier that was more economical than any of my favorite craft stores, and the crisis was averted. I now bathe in mountains of ribbon, like Cartman bathes in Kyle's money. "Mmmm....Kyle's money."  Except now it's like, "Mmm...Brandy's ribbon." No. That's not as effective and rolling around in the ribbon would wrinkle it.

Just today I got in a new shipment of ribbon.  400 yards to be exact.  :)  I love blue and ordered a variety of blues because I still don't know what color best fits my "brand." I was so excited about this new ribbon that I gave it a photo shoot in celebration of its existence.

Oh, if you ever have a preference for your order to be wrapped in one of these colors, just let me know and I'll hook ya up. Otherwise, I'll just use whatever roll I'm on at the moment.

So, whenever I get super bored I make cat head brooches.  I currently have 30+ cat head pins staring up at me from a table next to my desk.  I have problem, yeah, I know, but I still have clay left! I can't let perfectly good clay go to waste...

I liked how the first lady cat turned out, so I decided to make a few more and model them on my favorite pink coat.

Oh Yeah Cat Heads

A few days ago I opened a new little Etsy shoppe: Oh Yeah Cat Heads. It is here that I am free to "express myself" or some crap like that. Since we moved to Boston 8 months ago, I have been working at home on Of The Fountain full-time. This also means that I have been around our little hairless Sphynx catty ALL DAY EVERYDAY for quite a while.




Our demon child, Rasputin, likes to drive me nuts. Seriously. He enjoys it. If I am too busy to pay attention to him because I am semi-working, he will run over to the washing machine and beat it with his paw, making an annoying slapping noise. He stares at me while he does this, to make sure that he is really bothering me. His goal is to get me to chase him; he loves to run (no fur=less air resistance=faster speeds).

Being around this creature for so long has inspired me to make clay cat brooches that I have drawn with similar features as my Pooper. No fur. No whiskers. Sunken eyes. Huge bat-like ears. Giant evil eyeballs. I really try to make each cat brooch/pin look the same, but I am just not that good of an artist. So, each cat head pin is it's own character, which is nice I guess.

Review: Teavana's German Rock Sugar

After discovering the store Teavana about a year ago, I've been really into drinking loose leaf tea. During my last (and final) visit to Teavana, I inquired about the sweeteners they use in the sample teas that are set up around the store. I was then introduced to their German Rock Sugar.

I was excited to try it out, but upon doing so I was quite disappointed. I needed to put 2 heaping tablespoons of the sugar for every cup of tea just for it to be sweet enough to drink. I actually did gnaw on it like it was rock candy...it was more useful as candy than as a sweetener for my tea. If it was inexpensive, I suppose this wouldn't be a problem. However, I bought a huge tin that wasn't cheap and I went through the whole container in about 2 weeks. the rock sugar just isn't "strong" enough for me. :(

So, I can't say that I would recommend this sugar if you like adding a decent amount of sweeteners to your tea. If you are fine with just a hint of sugar taste, then this product would probably suit your needs. For now, I stick to the sugar packets I get from the grocery store...
